VW has unveiled the new Passat for the U.S. market

German manufactired has provided official information and images of the Passat American version, known until now as the NMS.

The model has undergone some serious changes. The Passat from the New Continent has a length of 10 cm higher than the European version. Also, the fresh facelift features a width greater than the model from european market. American sedan is equipped with a multi-link rear suspension, similar to the model in Europe.

From an aesthetic point of view, the U.S. sedan has a different grille and rear lights comparing with European variant. The interior features a redesigned dashboard. Door panels have also suffered changes. Midsize sedan comes with an equipping level different from its predecessor.

Regarding the engines, the new Passat is available in three versions: a 2.5-liter gasoline unit with five-cylinder produces 170 horsepower at 5700 rpm. Equipped with manual gearbox, the model reaches 100 km / h in 8.2 seconds, but if customers will choose an automatic gearbox, the vehicle will be somewhat slow, this speed in reaching it 8.7 seconds.

A second option offered by VW is a petrol engine with a 3.6 liter six-cylinder that develops 278 cp/6200 rpm. This version benefits from the DSG transmission through which can be achieved a 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds.

German manufacturer offers a diesel engine for the new Passat, a 2.0-liter TDI four-cylinder which has common-rail technology. The engine produces 140 horsepower and with its help the sedan can reach 100 km/h in 9.3 seconds. Consumption is only 5.4 liters, autonomy is 1280 km. VW Passat is the only midsize sedan equipped with a diesel engine on the North American market.

Opponents of the new Passat are the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.

The new model will be assembled at Chattanooga plant in Tennessee, United States, starting this summer, and the smallest price is set at 20,000 dollars.
