Opel Calibra is coming back to life

Nick Reilly, chairman of Opel, said that Calibra model will have a successor. He will derive from the concept GTC (Gran Turismo Concept), which have been admired at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show. Moreover, also Insignia is the result of that concept.

Gran Turismo Concept has received a 2.8-liter turbocharged V6 engine. Under the hood of the most powerful version of the new Calibra we could meet a turbo propeller. The model is likely to be equipped with four-wheel drive.

Engine versions of the new model will have direct injection, and will be quite effective in terms of consumption and performance. It is possible that all variants Opel Calibra to be equipped with supercharged engines. Also, there will be a diesel version of the German model. Chances are that this option to be available only in the European market.

The concept was created in 2007 on the platform of Vectra A. It is possible that Calibra's successor to be developed on Insignia's platform and to be implemented on it its motorizations.

Those from Opel could apply on the interior some of Insignia items.

Opel has sold 250 000 Calibra units during the production. The most powerful version had under its hood a C20LET engine that was able to deliver 204 horsepower. It was assisted by a six-speed transmission Getrag F26. Calibra had also four-wheel drive..
