Tesla Model S: available for sale from 2012

Tesla Motors will put on sale much-awaited Model S in the spring of 2012 and the first 1000 units will be delivered in North America.

The 1,000 copies will be a special edition called the Signature Series. This package will provide a more generous list of options. Customers can choose between a version with a range of 257 kilometers (159 miles), or one with 370 (229 miles).

After these 1,000 units, Tesla will produce another 4,000 in 2012.

In 2013, Tesla will manufacture 20,000 copies a year.
