The new BMW 1 Series will compete with the Audi A3 and pollutant emissions of the new model will be significantly reduced. On 1 Series will be implemented the platform of Mini Countryman.UKL (Unter Class) is the code of the new front-wheel drive BMW models which will be equipped with body hatchbach and break, the remaining variants will be 3-door, 5-door, convertible and coupe. In the case of 1 Series, four-wheel drive is available as an optional element, but only in case of Seria 1 platform, not with the Mini Countryman modified platform.
Most interesting is the fact that front-wheel drive versions of the new 1 Series is equipped with transverse engine, while in case of rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive versions manufacturer has chosen to mount the engine longitudinally. It is possible that the two body styles benefit of some differences in terms of aesthetics, precisely because rear wheel drive car will need a longer hood.
In front-wheel drive variant, rear passengers will enjoy of more space. The interior features a similar volume of the Audi A3 and Volkswagen Golf. We could also see different elements of the 5-Series GT on 1 Series.
In terms of engines, the German model will be equipped with N37 and N38 enignes. BMW offers for the new 1 Series 1.5-liter engines and customers will have both versions available petrol and diesel.
BMW 1 Series will receive both versions with four-cylinder engines, and 3-cylinder engines. The engines will be equipped with supercharged 4-cylinder with direct injection. BMW 1 Series also introduces the Efficient Dynamics technology. Thus, the Bavarian model will benefit ofrecovery of kinetic energy lost in braking, the Start/Stop system and a new recovery system of the heat lost by engine. Bavarian manufacturer will not introduce under the hood front-wheel drive versions (based on platform UKL) six-cylinder engines. However, the new BMW 1 Series will have a more powerful version of the turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which will be able to deliver 220 horsepower.
