Intelligent Transportation System: Maybe The Most Advanced Automotive Safety System

Personally, I have a big obsession for traffic safety. Unfortunately, there are only three manufacturers that have managed to make a huge progress in this respect, they are: BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo (of my knowledge), I'm talking about those systems that are powered car brakes automatically if a imminent danger of accident, for which we congratulate them, but can be better than that.

A team of researchers from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) seems to have managed to create a more advanced system than the above mentioned automakers. American system, dubbed Intelligent Transportation System, consists of a series of radars, cameras and sensors which go into action in case of accident danger, managing to avoid the tragic event.

This technology was tested extensively by the U.S. team, eventually were prevented 97 accidents in 100.

It's clear that must be a little more perfected. A big disadvantage is that it only works when two vehicles in danger of collision are equipped with ITS.

Hopefully, eventually all car manufacturers will get to use ITS, so the annual number of accidents to come if it's possible... to 0.
