The cheapest model performance from BMW will be launched on the market in 18 months and will develop around 350 hp from an engine bi-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder.
Engineers from BMW M Division working hard to develop a version of the 1 Series Coupe's performance, which could be called M1. The model is equipped with a turbocharged six cylinder engine with two turbines, most likely a modified version of N55B30, which will develop 350 hp.
The new engine debuts on N55B30 GT Series 5 and is equipped with one turbine twinscroll, Valvetronic, and Double-veined and direct injection and it develops 306 hp, like its predecessor twin-turbo - N54B30.
The new BMW M1 will be the cheapest model in the range of performance from BMW and will compete with the new Audi RS3. Most of the BMW still think of a name for the new model, as the name of M1 has been used already for a supercar that debuted in 1978 and has not had a successor.
The purpose of the new model is to make versions of BMW's performance more accessible to the general public and to attract more young people to the mark the Munich. Besides the performance improvement over the 135i M Sport, the new performance from BMW will be more efficient, promising lower fuel consumption. The cheapest model of performance is based on the current BMW 1 Series Coupe and may be equipped with a twin-clutch transmission and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential. The suspension of of the new performance model will be a modified version of the current present on the 135i Coupe, wich is equipped with a MacPherson strut front axle and a multi-link rear axle.
BMW engineers will fit stronger springs and firmer shock absorbers, along with a tougher set of jacks. The wheels of the new M model will have a size of 18 inches, and its overall behavior will be more dynamic than the 135i coupe's.
Inspiration for the new model from BMW performance comes from BMW 135 tii concept shown in 2007, and the body's cheapest M will reflect this thing.
Thus, the front bumper will get a lower lip, side sills will have a different shape and could incorporate the rear bumper diffuser and an air between the two discharges with two pipes. Boot capacity will be equipped with a rear spoiler to provide extra stability at high speeds.
